I have had the joy and privilege to travel with really good friends to France every year for the last 11 years accompanied by various combinations of parents, sisters and other friends.
This year in 2008 we will be traveling back to the Ardeche, a marvelous region with Provencale warmth and a rugged beauty all its own.
In this blog you will see many posts about the churches on the other side of the Rhone in the Drome Provencale where we did church hunting last year.
Each year we rent a fantastic house usually in either Provence (Western Provence near Avignon & Mont Ventoux, Ardeche, Drome Provencale, Luberon) or Languedoc (Minervois, Carcassonne, Cote Vermeille.) We have also visited Paris, Burgundy, the Dordogne, the Alps, Loire Valley, Cote d’Azur. And tacked on to these stays in France were detours to Rome, Tuscany, Barcelona, Switzerland, Portofino Coast, South Tyrol, Venice, Copenhagen, Madrid, Stockholm.
In these travels, we have become enamored of the simple country church and use it as the fulcrum for the exploration of our neighborhood and surrounding countryside in each area that we visit. By searching for these tranquil and ancient landmarks, we venture where we might not have thought to go and look for the details of a place on a truly local level.
Hi Karen - I just read your email and checked out your blog - I’m very impressed and I’m way behind the times (I am clueless about blogs)
Do you check your blog while you’re traveling?
If you do - have a great trip!

Hello… Just to say thank you for a beautiful blog… Thanks to you, I’m discovering the countryside around me (I live in ST Paul 3 châteaux…)
So beautifully written too…
Dear Mylene,
Thank you so much for your comments. You are SO LUCKY to live in St. Paul 3 Chateaux. What an amazing place! I’ll be starting new posts from this year’s trip, but more on the other side of the river in Ardeche. But I hope to spend time in Drome in the future–it’s marvelous.
